Summary in the national language:
Il-proġett għandu l-għan li jqajjem kuxjenza dwar l-użu ta' Riżorsi tal-Ilma mhux Konvenzjonali fost għalliema u studenti. Dawn jinkludu l-ilma tax-xita, ilma użat f'doċċi u minn ħasil ta' idejn u ilma tad-drenaġġ trattat biex jerġa' jintuża. Dan kollu jista jgġin biex itaffi l-iskarsezza ta ilma fil-gżejjer Maltin. Dan il-proġett huwa parti mill-programm Alter Aqua li beda fis-sena 2011 mil-Global Water Partnership Mediterrenean (GWP-Med) - (Sġubija Globali tal-Ilma fil-Mediterran) b'kooperazzjoni mal-Ministeru għal Għawdex u l-proġett Eko-Għawdex, bil-għan li jinħolqu Riżorsi tal-Ilma Mhux Konvenzjonali fil-gżira ta' Għawdex, bhala soluzzjoni sostenibbli għall-ilma disponibbli meta l-ilma qed ikompli jiskarsa u t-talba għalih qiegħda tiżdied.

Il-Proġett ġie żviluppat minn tim dedikat mil-Greċja (MEdIES) u Malta (EkoSkola). It-Tim minn MEdIES ikkontribwixxa l-esperjenza tiegħu fi proġett simili li sar fil-gżejjer Griegi matul dawn l-aħħar erba' snin filwaqt li it-tim minn EkoSkola għamel ħafna riċerka intensiva b'mod li flimkien irnexxilhom jippreparaw materjal edukattiv li huwa validu u relevanti lokalment b'mod attraenti għall komunita edukattiva Maltija.

Il-proġett jikkonsisti minn dawn l-attivitajiet:
- żvilupp ta pakkett ta' riżorsi għall-għalliema b'lezzjonijiet preparati, li jolqtu studenti mil-hames sena fl-iskejjel primarji sat-tieni sena fl-iskejjel sekondarji. Dawn il-lezzjonijiet jittrattaw dwar iċ-ċiklu ta' l-ilma, ġbir tal-ilma tax-xita, użu ta' ilma użat, disalinazzjoni, ġibjuni, eċċ.
- żvilupp ta' numru ta' lezzjonijiet prattiċi b'użu ta' materjal u logħob li jużaw l-istudenti direttament.
- firxa ta' materjal edukattiv b'taħriġ speċifiku kif ir-riżorsi mogħtija jistgħu jintuzaw f'diversi suġġetti fil-kurrikulu bil-mira li jħarreġ għalliema, assistenti fit-tagħlim, assitenti fil-Kindergarten u anke Kapijiet ta' skejjel. Sa issa intlaħħqu iktar minn 250 persuna.
- serje ta' visti fl-iskejjel li waqthom l-istudenti, b'etajiet bejn 3-12-il sena jipparteċipaw f'sessjonijiet prattiċi addattati għalihom skont l-eta u abilitajiet (numru ta' studenti milħuqa sa issa: 3000+).

It-tim ta' EkoSkola kien responsabbli li jakkwista permessi neċessarji biex isir dan it-taħriġ, iffaċilita is-sessjonijiet prattiċi u organizza it-taħriġ għall-għalliema fil-gżejjer Maltin.

Summary in English:
The project aims to raise awareness of teachers and students about the use of Non Conventional Water Resources (NCWRs), such as rainwater, greywater and wastewater reuse that can increase water availability in the water scarce Maltese islands. The project is part of the “Alter Aqua Programme” initiated in 2011 by the Global Water Partnership Mediterranean (GWP-Med) in partnership with the Ministry for Gozo and the Eco-Gozo Project, aiming to mobilize NCWRs in the Island of Gozo, as a sustainable solution to address water scarcity issues, due to resources depletion, rising demand and climate change threats.

The project was developed by a committed team from Greece (MEdIES) and Malta (EkoSkola). The MEdIES team contributed the experience of a similar project in Greek islands that lasts 4 years, and the EkoSkola experts underwent intensive research so as to come up with an educational material that is locally relevant and appealing to the Maltese educational community.

The project entailed the following activities:
- the development of a Teachers’ Resource Pack with lesson plans, targeting late primary and early secondary level, tackling issues such as the water cycle, rainwater harvest, greywater reuse, desalination, cisterns, etc.
- the development of a set of hands-on material and games to be used with the students
- the development of a poster for students in English and Maltese language
- the dissemination of the material through targeted trainings and sessions on how to use it across the curriculum. Such trainings were attended by teachers, learning support assistants, kindergarten assistants and heads of schools totalling over 250 in all so far.
- a series of school visits during which students, aged 3- 12 yrs, participated in hands-on sessions according to age and competences (number of students reached so far is over 3000).

The EkoSkola team were responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions, facilitating the students’ hands-on sessions and organising all the teacher trainings in the Maltese islands.
